Comfort Module – Undertone

Musically, Comfort Module and their debut album Undertone could be described as a lovechild of Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails if that child grows up listening to Kent and secretly makes out with IAMX behind the school gym.
“I know we have a retro sound,” says Henrik. “But it’s not ironic or calculated. It’s just where we feel at home. We grew up in that era and love the sound.”

The album’s nine tracks are the result of many long studio sessions, where synths and soundscapes form a complex cluster of melodies and layers to support Pär’s vocals. The album is accompanied by three EPs featuring remixes from twelve of Sweden’s brightest stars on the electronica scene (including Agent Side Grinder, Motormännen, Rivet, and Lizette Lizette). Work on a second album is already underway, and the band is currently busy preparing for their live performances throughout Sweden.
The album was recorded at Comfort Module’s studio in Täby Kyrkby, mastered in Sandviken, and visually designed by Rolfcarlwerner in Gävle.

Background
Henrik and Pär are no newcomers to the music scene. As early as 1987, they formed the EBM band Pro Vision One, which released two cassette tapes in the years that followed.
In 1995, they upped the ante and formed the electronic trip-hop outfit Soundrug, which, when performing live, featured seven members. Soundrug played frequently at classic Stockholm venues like Studion, Kulturhuset, and Rangus Tangus, as well as festivals such as Hultsfred and Arvika. The band was first signed to Air Chrysalis and later to Jimmy Fun Music — though no music was ever released.

In the 2000s, Henrik began exploring other careers as an author and mentalist, but the duo continued to create music — albeit in the shadows. Pär and Henrik wrote music for several stage productions and occasionally took on commercial work. Now, with Comfort Module, they are back in their best form yet.

About Comfort Module
The Swedish duo Comfort Module was formed in 2019 as a purely therapeutic endeavor. Longtime friends and music lovers Pär Steen and Henrik Fexeus began creating music as a way to recover from the demands of everyday life. To keep the creative process pressure-free, they made a pact: no one would ever hear the result of their work.
That didn’t quite go as planned.

Their first track, “It Falls Apart,” leaked onto electronic underground dance floors, and today Comfort Module is Sweden’s worst-kept secret in the synth scene. With enthusiastic support from Lamour Records, they have finally decided to present their music to the rest of the world — a release packed with 100% love for electronic music.
